Thankfully there was a Harvest Host destination for us just over the border in Mead/Spokane, WA. We were able to stay the night at a fruit/produce farm in an area full of family farms out in the country. The folks were super welcoming and the views were fab!!

After apple picking and cider drinking, it was time to check out Big Barn Brewery that just happened to be a 3-min walk (on a dirt road between fields) from our spot. This ended up being one of my/Jaimi best nights so far. Had several IPAs and pales out in the countryside – but BEST of all was meeting the owner/brewmaster and getting to help him pelletize hops (just picked from the fields a mere few feet away) destined for an upcoming IPA batch. We met a bunch of fun people and the experience was once in a lifetime. I’m a huge IPA fan girl and having the chance to take part in a really fascinating part of that beer’s creation was so fun for me. It was the most unique/special brewery I’ve ever been to. A truly incredible night I’ll never forget.

Did they do any fresh hop beer? Non-pelletized versions?

That brewery didn’t – but I’ve had two of those in the past few days and they were so-so good! My fave was one from Big Horse in Hood River 🙂
